To help IODE Canada celebrate its 125th Anniversary as Canada's 2nd oldest women's organization in 2025, IODE Jon Sigurdsson Chapter held a "book drive" specifically for children ages 3 months - 6 years with the goal of collecting 125 "new and gently used" books. Books were collected and donated by our members. In addition, a box of new books wad donated by children's author Nicole Petroski of Purple Tuesday Press.
The books were presented to Robyn Burnet, Executive Director of Day Nursery Center of Winnipeg, for distribution to the children who attend four inner-city day care centers. The books were accompanied by 125 beautifully hand-sewn book bags, made by member Natalie Denesovych and her Trinity Sew-and- Sews quilting group. We are pleased to report that more that 250 books were collected, so that each child received more than one book.
Chapter member Laureen Brandson made the presentation at our Scholarship Awards presentation on October 26, 2025.
