JON SIGURDSSON CHAPTER
Established in 1916
Inclusive, Organized, Determined, Enthusiastic.
IODE Jon Sigurdsson chapter is part of the national women's charitable organization, IODE Canada.
Today we welcome women of all heritages and backgrounds who wish to be part of a group that focuses on helping less fortunate women and children in the Winnipeg area AND our Scholarship program for university and college students from Manitoba.
The chapter was established in 1916, by a group of Icelandic immigrant women who wanted to contribute to Canadian society in a substantive way by supporting the home front during World War I, which was the mission of the I.O.D.E at that time.
Because of this history, the Chapter continues to maintain this connection through cooperation with some of the Icelandic heritage groups in Winnipeg and Manitoba, to our mutual benefit. These include the Icelandic Canadian Fron, Canada Iceland Foundation Inc., Löberg-Heimskringla and the Consulate General of Iceland.
